“I am 19 years old. I carried my pregnancy through the first trimester with no complications. But at 6 months I got a fever and went into labour. I delivered a little girl at my nearby health centre but she was small and cold and had difficulty in breathing so they sent me to the neonatal unit in Mbale.
When we arrived at NNU she weighed just 800g. They gave her fluids and oxygen and tube feeding and the baby improved. Finally I went home after 6 weeks when she weighed 1.1kg.
One week later she developed a high fever and got readmitted to NNU but again the baby improved and now I just come back to clinic for reviews.
I am so happy and thankful to the staff and the neonatal unit for the tireless effort and support during my stay in NNU.”
